I've briefly reviewed the sites below and recommend them for providing good material to learn the basics of Excel as of 2022.
Note that at this level it doesn't really matter what version of Excel you're using, at least on a PC. The basics are all very much the same, although the placement of items on the menus may vary from one version to the next.
I cannot verify the Mac version's similarity, but it should be much the same since workbooks prepared on a PC can be used on a Mac and vice-versa.
Google Search that I used to find all but GCF Learn Entry
As is often the case with Google, the top entries are very good
AI Search - As of late 2024 I find that Google Gemini, Perplexity, MS Copilot are often quicker and more useful.
Primarily Text Sites
Excel from GCF Learn - Very Good
This is a well-considered and clear combination of videos and text. It would be my first recommendation to get started with Excel or review it.
Good explanation of the parts and pieces, but doesn't start from the very beginning
It has great depth if you want to learn advanced material
Guru99.com - Introduction to Excel
An clear explanation with some amount of "why," but dives into details too quickly for my taste.
Primarily Video Sites
Excel Basics Tutorial - Video 21:46
From Technology for Teachers and students
Well done - notes the existence of Templates, which can be very helpful
Does not get into formulas for numbers
Ancient, but still good
Excel Formulas and Functions - Kevin Stratvert 12:28
He covers many of the basic arithmetic formulas clearly
I've found that he has many videos, most of which are very good.
LinkedIn Learning (LIL - was Lynda.com)
This is a paid website owned by Microsoft. Many public libraries have subscriptions that they make available to their patrons. It's close to $30/month if you have to pay for it - probably not worthwhile with such good free materials.
Excel Essential Training (Office 365/Microsoft 365) - 2hrs 17min of videos
Good overview by a good instructor
This will take you through the basics in a smooth manner and into intermediate level material
You do not need to go all the way through to become reasonably proficient
Note that it provides Exercise files. They can be very helpful.
